Portia de Rossi made it official and legally took wife Elle DeGeneres' last name.
It's out with Portia de Rossi and in with Portia Lee James DeGeneres, as the 37-year-old actress was officially given the new moniker Thursday. A judge granted the star's name change petition, which she filed in L.A. Superior Court early last month.
This will be the second name change for the Australian actress, who was born Amanda Lee Rogers. In 2005, she told The Advocate that she now realizes the original name change -- which she did at age 15 -- was a way to discover her true self and accept her sexuality.
"In retrospect, I think it was largely due to my struggle about being gay," she said. "Everything just didn’t fit, and I was trying to find things I could identify myself with, and it started with my name."
Portia and Ellen married in August of 2008.
