Are your friends really likely to turn down every dinner invitation from you in the future? Will the disappointing meal seem like a big deal in three years or three months? If you challenge and dispute your exaggerated thinking, you’ll begin to look at the situation differently—at least the conversation at dinner was lively!—and you’ll feel less stressed.
