Potty training: Keep the stress out

Pick a time that you are not overly stressed and can give extra patience to your little one, as inevitable misses will occur! If you resort to melt downs during this trial-and-error period of learning, you may negatively charge your child's experience.

Put timing in your child's hands. Once you have provided the tools, it is up to your child to decide when to use them.

You can explain to your child that when ready she will learn to put her pee and poop into the toilet. You can offer your child the choice of wearing underwear or diapers and the option of sitting on the toilet when she is getting her diaper changed.

Choice is the important word here. It is important that children are never forced, coerced, shamed or manipulated into using the toilet.
