Poutine



The name sounds like some consumptive 19th-century French trollop, but poutine is just humble comfort food at its best. Developed in Quebec about 50 years ago, the dish of French fries covered in fresh cheese curds and gravy is now popular across Canada and parts of the U.S. and even appears on the menus of fast-food joints like McDonald’s and Burger King. And you thought a plate of cheese fries was overdoing it.
