We all love our love letters, it seems -- 80 percent of us keep old ones, even those from ex-es. What makes a love letter worth keeping? Here's what iVillagers have to say about their favorites.
The best love letter I ever received:
"... was the first one I ever got, back in junior high. There was a boy who had a crush on me; one day I asked him what it was that he liked so much about me, and the next day he handed me a crumpled note that read:
'In answer to your question what do I like about you, the reason I like you is because you are pretty extremely pretty and nice really nice, athletic, you're mature. Did I mention pretty? Other than that I just really really like you but I know there's no way you'll ever go out with me. But I like you so much I can't even listen to Bryan Adams' Everything I Do I Do It for You or I'll cry.'
I never did end up being his girlfriend, but we remained friends all through high school." --katie
"... told me that 'you light up my life, you are a very special lady, I love to hear you laugh! You're such a neat person!' (That last part refers to me personally, not my cleaning habits!) What made the letter special was that it referred to me as a person, and wasn't just the usual physical/sexual description." --covert
"... said, 'When you are with me, it's like having your favorite thing ... but when you leave, it's like your favorite thing is gone.'" --valerie
"... was a stack of yellow legal-size paper with the title 'The 500 Reasons I Love You (and the reasons I'm sorry you left).' This was left on the windshield of my car along with a dozen roses the day after I moved out of my boyfriend's house. We never did get back together, but I still remember that note very fondly. It made me feel very special." --brillohead
