Pregnancy Journal: Baby daydreams

This week was by far the most hectic yet. The time has actually flown by with as little thought to being pregnant as you can give when you are pregnant. What that means in short is that the word “baby” has entered my mind only every other minute! I actually feel much more relaxed now that we’ve seen the baby on the ultrasound. The photo is so tiny and so blurry that I really can’t make out much other than that the baby is somewhat oval shaped with a head and a body. It was still very early to be looking.

What has occurred to me every day is how amazed I am at the speed at which our baby is developing. I looked the other day at an ultrasound photo of Jacob taken at twelve weeks pregnant. It was so clear. His facial features are very much evident. Tiny, but evident. His arms and legs were outstretched, and his little thumb lingered just above his mouth. In fact, when we actually looked at the screen during his ultrasound the doctor had jokingly “yelled” at him to stop sucking his thumb so he didn’t hurt his developing teeth. I simply can’t express in words the wonder I feel when I look at the difference between the two pictures. Only a mere two and a half weeks gestation separate the two, yet the differences in development are spectacular. I’ve spent many an hour daydreaming about what this little one will look like, and more importantly, what it looks like now.

The morning sickness continues nearly as strong as last week. I feel so much better than I did at this point in my previous pregnancy. Truth be told, that still worries me on occasion, but then I try to stop and remember that the two pregnancies should be different. I expect each child to be an individual, so why shouldn’t each have their own way of entering the world? Fortunately, I’m somewhat able to function this week. I felt well enough to volunteer to watch our neighbor’s son for a time near week’s end and to sit and converse with another friend earlier in the week. I haven’t done either of those things in weeks.
