Pregnancy Journal: Calm

Not much happened this week. It’s been a long time since I’ve been able to say that. Rob took a week of vacation to try and settle into our new home. Jacob was a wonderfully happy little boy who kept telling us about his new “happy house.” In fact, he reduced me to tears when he protested a shopping trip so we could stay at "Jacob’s house." The biggest events of the week were our nightly shopping trips to Home Depot (30 miles away). You’d think that two responsible adults could properly measure everything at once and make only one trip, but somehow as we’d fix one thing another would show itself in need of repair. So, we spent the week cleaning, fixing, unpacking and playing. That about sums it up!

We now live in the middle of nowhere. We’re 30 minutes from a real grocery store and all of the shopping that used to be within a cross-town drive. We have 3.7 acres of the longest grass you’ve ever seen and only an old push mower with which to tackle it. We have more crickets than anyone ever knew existed. And, we love it! Though we’re still somewhat stressed about our newly increased financial responsibility, we are finally finding ourselves relaxing and enjoying a more normal, though box-filled, life again.

I received a midweek phone call from my Mother to let me know that "Grammy and Grandpa are coming to visit." After wondering why she’d call to say that when she was here only 12 hours before, I realized that the grandparents in question were in fact, mine -- not Jacob’s. This was wonderfully unexpected news, as Rob and I had been trying to find a way to take Jacob to Arizona to meet them. So, now we excitedly prepare for their arrival in two weeks. And, since they’re going to my parent’s house, I don’t even have to worry about cleaning our impossible, half-unpacked mess.
