Pregnant Kate Hudson Spotted Drinking Wine -- Is That OK?

Newly pregnant Kate Hudson, out to dinner in Argentina with her rocker boyfriend Matt Bellamy and U2’s Bono and The Edge, was recently spotted sipping on what we can only imagine -- gasp! -- was a very tasty Malbec. Isn't wine a no-no for pregnant types?

Officially, yes: The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists states that no amount of alcohol consumption is safe during pregnancy. But unofficially it's not so clear, especially since several recent studies suggest that a drink here and there could actually be beneficial to baby (in this case, fewer emotional and behavioral problems throughout childhood and adolesence).

And despite the ACOG recommendations, many women will tell you that their OBs green-lighted an occasional glass. While mine told me to steer clear of unpasteurized cheeses and fish with high concentrations of mercury, he also told me to relax with a glass of wine once a week. (The key here is of course the word occasional.)

Our take? If you're worried about it at all -- skip it. Buy the bottle and stash it until after baby comes. But if it's a gorgeous night, you're sitting across from Bono and your doctor has given you the all-clear to indulge in moderation -- then sneak a few sips. We're right there with you, Kate.
