If you have insurance, you can still get more for less. Getting medications through the mail can be a big cost saver. If you order online, make sure the Web site displays the seal of Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites (VIPPS) and is licensed by the state board of pharmacy (check the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy).
Also, when your doctor is prescribing medication, ask if there’s a generic version. Drug discount programs at many retailers such as Walmart and Target offer one month’s supply of generic drugs for $4, or a 90-day supply for $10. (Also see medication assistance resources.) Some retailers now offer some antibiotics for free, with a prescription, of course.
