New York, NY, April 13, 2007 - Before Shear Genius fans hit their local hair salons, they can avoid trauma of the tresses by trying on their favorite hairstyles from the show using iVillage.com's popular Makeover-O-Matic. Bravo and iVillage have teamed up to offer female viewers a complete Shear Genius experience with a chance to virtually wear the hair they love and experiment with new looks using their own image.
Throughout Bravo's Shear Genius series, which airs on Wednesdays at 10pm ET/PT, fans will be able to "try out" the exact hairstyles created by the show's challengers. With a new digital (hair)do in hand, they can email a photo of themselves to friends and family, and include a before/after feature as well. The emails will be tagged with Shear Genius air times. The Makeover-O-Matic is iVillage's most popular tool, located on the site's Beauty & Style channel at http://beauty.ivillage.com. Users upload their photos, then try out dozens of different hairstyles, beauty products and accessories. In addition to choosing the color shade and style (straight/curly, long/short, bangs, etc), they can choose one of several celebrity hairstyles donned by Beyonce, Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore, among others. For those who don't have a photo on hand, dozens of "model" faces in all shapes and sizes, varying in eye color and skin tone, are accessible.
"We're thrilled to be working with our partners at Bravo on Shear Genius. The series is smart and sassy and offers a familiar voice for our 16 million users," said Deborah Fine, President of iVillage. "This is brilliant example of integration and it gives us a chance to try a new look on one of our favorite tools."
In addition to incorporating the Makeover-O-Matic feature, Shear Genius beauty experts will offer hairstyling tips for everyone from Hollywood hopefuls to soccer moms in the spirit of the show's wide spectrum of challengers. iVillage will also feature a weekly video recap of every episode.
"The Makeover-O-Matic gives viewers the chance to literally try on the winning hairstyles every week," said Jason Klarman, Executive Vice President, Marketing and Digital, Bravo. "This is a great opportunity to get consumers even more involved in Shear Genius."
