New York, NY, July 10, 2007 - Something borrowed, something blue. Something old, and now something new... from the largest community of women online. iVillage announces today the launch of iVillage Weddings, a new destination to bring family, friends and fellow brides together around the big day.
"A wedding can be one of the most important events in a woman's life - as the largest community of women online, this is a life stage we want to provide support for on every level," said Deborah Fine, President of iVillage. "We've created a destination where brides can not only find a wealth of resources to help them go from 'I Will' to 'I Do', but to keep them connected to friends and family on every aspect of the engagement, wedding, shower and beyond."
Something Old: Through its popular Love & Sex and Beauty & Style channels, iVillage has always offered brides-to-be a wealth of editorial resources on everything from weddings etiquette to tips for planning a wedding on a shoestring budget. With the wedding industry reaching approximately $72 billion and over 1 million brides expected to plan their weddings this year using the Internet as a resource, iVillage will now cater to these figures with a channel devoted entirely to Weddings.
Something New: Whether it's venting about over-bearing in-laws or getting a bachelorette party on the calendar for 8 bridesmaids, iVillage's Weddings channel boasts NEW interactive features to keep women connected and "in the know" every step of the way.
- A unique calendar that can be shared by everyone in the wedding party - it lists important dates such as dress fittings, showers and other special events to keep everyone in the loop.
- Exclusive social networking groups via iVillage Connect - groups include Weddings by Month, Just Engaged, Anti-Bride, Mother of the Bride, Destination Weddings, and many more. Brides are encouraged to start their own groups for their family and friends.
- Blogs such as "Style Down the Aisle" by bridal stylist Julie Sabatino, "The Stylish Bride" and "From 'I Will' to 'I Do'" by iVillage's own weddings expert Anne Chertoff.
Something Borrowed: iVillage has partnered with The Knot to offer co-branded versions of its wedding tools including the Wedding Checklist, Wedding Budgeter, and Wedding Gown finder. The Knot also powers the iVillage Wedding Shop, offering everything from unique favors to attendant gifts for sale.
Some of the best ideas for weddings are borrowed ideas. Runway videos and inspirational photo galleries will offer ideas for the big day and help make big decisions a little easier.
- Slideshows and photos showcasing cakes, flowers, hairstyles, color palettes, how to "get the look" from your favorite celebrities' nuptials; brides can even upload their own photos to create a wedding day photo gallery.
- Videos of runway coverage from recent fashion shows in one central location showcasing future, current and past wedding attire trends.
- "Real Weddings" section from couples all over the country who want to relive their big day and show fellow users how they made it special.
Something Blue: Couples can plan the perfect honeymoon or destination wedding overlooking the ocean blue...or under blue skies...without going blue in the face.
- The Honeymoon Finder tool will inspire a dream honeymoon with both relaxing and adventurous options in places like Fiji, Isla Mujeres, Mexico, St. Lucia and Hawaii.
- The Destination Weddings Finder tool will help the bride and groom choose the perfect locale for their wedding according to the type of venue they'd like and the number of guests they're expecting.
- Must-read tips for planning a destination wedding, such as scheduling a "test drive" of the location and how to handle friends and family who may not be able to attend for financial reasons.
Target, the launch sponsor for iVillage Weddings, will offer the Your Day, Your Way Wedding Sweepstakes on the channel. For two weeks starting July 17th, brides-to-be will have a chance to win a $200 gift card from Target every day of the promotion. One lucky bride will win the Grand Prize of $2000 cash towards her wedding day.
To celebrate the launch of the iVillage Weddings, iVillage will host a "Wedding In a Box" event in the diamond district in New York City on July 10th. Jessica (29) and Kenny (30) of Brooklyn Heights, NY will tie the knot with all of New York as their witness inside a giant life-sized clear box containing everything they need for the perfect wedding inside...the dress, the tux, the cake, the music, the champagne, even a Justice of the Peace.
