Conventional wisdom: Women like romantic costume dramas. New wisdom: Women like gory horror movies. But we all know that women want it all. Which is why Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has the potential to be the best movie ever.
Based on the bestselling 2009 book, which inserts an undead subplot into the classic Jane Austen novel, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies will star Natalie Portman, who's also co-producing the film. Portman will play Elizabeth Bennet, the quick-witted society girl who rejects, and then is won over by, the arrogantly charming Mr. Darcy. Except in the alternative universe of the movie, Bennet is also a zombie hunter, disabling hordes of monsters (and occasionally ninjas) with swords and muskets. Natalie Portman wearing petticoats and decapitating zombies? Who wouldn't want to see that?
As a sidenote, the movie is being directed by Richard Kelly, whose wonderful Donnie Darko was followed by the insane apocalyptic nonsense epic Southland Tales. Seeing as this movie is supposed to be an insane apocalyptic nonsense epic, we can't imagine a better choice.
Oh, and if it seems like Natalie Portman is in every single movie coming out next year, that's because she is.
