In February 2007 it was announced that Prince Harry would be deployed to the frontlines in Iraq. "There's no way I'm going to put myself through Sandhurst and then sit on my arse back home while my boys are out fighting for their country," he said at the time. However, when it was determined he’d be seen as too much of a target, Harry instead he spent his tour of duty in Afghanistan. This made him the first member of the royal family to have served in a war zone since his uncle, Prince Andrew, flew helicopters in the Falklands War.
