One of the most unexpected nude photo scandals of 2012 came from Britain's party prince Harry. The royal already had a bad-boy reputation, but that hit a whole new level when the 28-year-old was snapped hanging out in his birthday suit with friends -- and naked women -- in a Las Vegas hotel suite.
It's been (exactly) five months since those photos hit the web, but Prince Harry still hasn't been able to quite live them down. He has now come forth to admit that he probably should have been on better behavior -- though he also thinks those private moments should have stayed private.
"It was probably a classic example of me probably being too much army, and not enough prince. It's a simple case of that," Harry says in an interview from his military base in Afghanistan, via People. "At the end of the day I probably let myself down, I let my family down, I let other people down."
He adds, "But at the end of the day I was in a private area and there should be a certain amount of privacy that one should expect. Back home all my close friends rallied round me and were great."
While Harry should have learned by now that what happens in Vegas never actually stays in Vegas, we agree that the nude photos never should have been released. They were taken during what was supposed to be a private event and, though Harry was taking part in some very un-prince-like activities, he only let his guard down because he thought he was around friends. The British royal family members are celebrities solely because of their status, so there should be a level of respect that should be applied to their private moments.
By contrast, take a similar circumstance that happened recently with a different celebrity: Justin Bieber. He was photographed allegedly smoking pot at a party, and the picture hit the web and became viral. Though it can be argued that whatever Bieber does should be up for public consumption because he intentionally rose to fame, it also can be argued that his having to watch everything he says always will make him go mad. Hollywood celebrities are on a different playing field than royal ones, but the lesson remains the same: Sometimes what's private really needs to stay private.
