When Prince William and Kate Middleton announced their engagement, a few things came to mind: when's the big day, who's going to design her wedding gown, and what does the ring look like!
First thing's first -- let's start with the rock… The prince gave his beautiful bride-to-be the engagement ring that his father, Prince Charles, once gave to his late mother, Princess Diana.
"It's very special to me. As Kate's very special to me now, it was right to put the two together," he said as the couple faced cameras yesterday with the announcement. Awww!
The ring is an oval sapphire surrounded by diamonds -- lots of 'em. Gorgeous!
We don't know the ring's actual value, but we can only assume that it's a number most of us "commoners" can't afford.
So we did the next best thing -- we hunted for similar ring styles:
Fantasia Sapphire Cocktail Ring ($350 at Last Call by Neiman Marcus): A square-cut blue sapphire on 22-karat white gold vermeil plated sterling silver setting with rhodium finish. It also has cubic zirconia insets.
10k Gold Created Sapphire and 1/5ct TDW Diamond Ring ($168.99 at Overstock): This oval blue created sapphire ring is set in 10-karat gold. It also has diamond insets surrounding the center stone.
Jean Dousset Absolute and Created Sapphire Oval Ring ($94.95 at HSN): The oval created sapphire sparkles on this ring. It also has pear-cut Absolute simulated diamonds around the center stone.
The couple is set to wed in the spring or summer of next year, and there's speculation that Kate might consider gowns made by Stella McCartney or Daniella Issa Helayel. We'll keep you posted!
