At the last challenge before Fashion Week the designers are feeling the pressure to create the their best piece yet and really "wow" the judges. With only five contestants left after Ricky being voted off last week, their fingers are geared up for sewing.
Tim was waiting for them outside the Metropolitan Museum of Art, one of the largest museums in the world with over 5,000 years of art inside.
"The first thing I notice walking in - it's huge," Rami said.
The museum was vacant; only the designers were allowed to roam the halls of the colossal museum
Tim told them that art has served as a critical and inspirational design for fashion, and their challenge this week was to choose a work of art for the inspiration to make the look of their choice.
This is every designer's dream.
They could choose from three different galleries: the Greek and Roman sculpture courtyard, the European painting wing, and the
Cameras were provided for everyone to record their inspiration.
“The statue of Aphrodite was like a soulmate for me- it was instantly meeting my match” Rami said.
Christian chose a Spanish military inspired painting and he wanted to make it Avant-garde.
Jillian is trying to express a certain edgy side of herself.
The designers sketched out their creations, and went shopping for the perfect fabric.
With two hours left until the day of the day and Sweet Pea’s model late due to a personal emergency, everyone is panicking and pressed for time- especially Jillian. Surprise surprise.
The next day Chris finished early and decided to catch up on some zzzs. Tim was not too happy and asked him to join everyone else in the work room.
“You know going to Bryant park would be like winning the lottery but I don’t count on it but I don’t count it out,” Chris said.
After hours of makeup, draping, cutting, sewing, clipping, and pressing, the models were finally ready to hit the runway.
The judges loved Christian’s creation- it was “super chic and practical,” Kors said.
Though Chris’s was beautiful, they had seen it before- which takes away from the beauty of the dress.
Jillian’s was a big hit- according to the judges, the dress did great things for her model’s body. Heidi also loved the hidden gold underneath the jacket.
Sweet Pea’s just wasn’t special enough, the judges said they know she can make commercial clothes, but they need to see more.
Even though Rami knew what the judges’ reaction was going to be despite his beautifully draped Greek inspired dress, he still went for the same-old style he does every week. It didn’t fly this week, and he was left in the bottom with Chris and Sweet Pea.
Christian was the winner, and was guaranteed a spot at Fashion Week in
Sweet Pea was asked to go home; as her peacock dress just didn’t fly.
Here’s the twist. The judges believed in both Rami and Chris’s talent, so they decided to keep them both in rather than voting one of them off. However, only one will make it to Fashion Week. They will show judges their three strongest looks from their collections and then the judges will determine which one will continue on to Fashion Week.
