Project Runway Recap: Models Become Clients, Designers Turn It Out

Mike Yarish/Lifetime Networks

In a surprise turn, the models become the designers' clients! Pretty simple—the ladies just tell the competitors what they want to wear for a high-profile evening. And, it’s the competitors’ jobs to make them look good—so good that their ensembles should hopefully help them land gigs.

Irina is having an issue with her "indecisive" model, who seemed to have no idea (or a personality?). Louise has to deal with weirdo model, Fatma, whose vision for an outfit is as crazy as her personality. Althea has positive thoughts about her ensemble because she got along so well with her model (who, by the way, has a great sense of style to begin with--lucky designer). Even Tim Gunn had high hopes for the skirt-and-smoking-jacket ensemble. When it came to Shirin, her model told her she wanted a royal blue satin jumpsuit... Ummm, what?! (The first thought that came to mind: Adidas in the ‘80s.)

As for Qristyl—who still has yet to show me her design skills—when she showed Tim her model’s outfit, he used the word: messy. “It looks like she’s been rolling around in bed,” he adds. Well, that can’t be good. She quickly edited the garment and made a boring black dress instead, which eventually landed her a trip back home (as predicted).

Ra’mon remains my favorite—he’s so focused when it comes to his look. Plus, Epperson is starting to earn a place in my heart—during a phone call to his family, you realize the designer is a family man. I’m rooting for him, too—he really wants to succeed on the show, partially because he’s sacrificing valuable time with his kids.

Now, it’s time to start the show... The only thing I notice as the models headed out to the runway: Tim Gunn does a big double take at Logan’s blue and black Cinderalla dress. I had wondered if he loves or hates it—later, it’s revealed the judges were not fans of the dress and Gunn likely agreed.

The Most Memorable Looks: Nicolas’ design looked futuristic and chic, Gordana’s tan mini dress with texture in the front was to die for, Logan’s Cinderella number (that the judges said looked really prom, and not in a good way) was yuck, Ra’mon’s gigantic flower ensemble was totally gorgeous (he’s so my favorite still)

Who Won: Althea
