And now, New Republic reports, there’s another reason to keep your pubic hair: Injuries.
According to the magazine, researchers from the University of California, San Francisco looked at hospital ER visits due to pubic hair grooming incidents and found related injuries were up five times between 2002 and 2010.
The main culprit? Razors, which were to blame 84 percent of the time, New Republic reports. Not cringing yet? A little over a third of injuries were lacerations, and the area most hurt? That would be the “external female genitalia,” the magazine adds.
But the study, published in the journal Urology, showed it’s not just women proving that beauty is, indeed, pain: Men were victims of pubic hair injuries about 43 percent of the time.
Now, if those stats don’t make women (and guys) back away from the razor, we don’t know what will. Well, maybe the thought of having to rush to the emergency room and the idea of explaining your injury to the staff. That alone might guarantee saying adeus to the Brazilian and bringing back the bush.
