Rachel McAdams is happily dating her Midnight in Paris costar Michael Sheen, but she's quick to explain that they didn't hook up until after the movie wrapped.
"Michael and I didn't get together while we were filming Midnight in Paris, which I feel strongly about not doing when I'm working. We became quite good friends, which I think is a great way to start," McAdams, 33, tells The Daily Telegraph's Sunday magazine. "I felt very blessed to have made a Woody Allen film in Paris together."
McAdams, whose last high-profile relationship was with Ryan Gosling, her The Notebook costar, admits that the downside of being with another actor is dealing with the distance, but she and Sheen, 42, make a point to see each other at least once a month.
"Michael and I never spend more than three weeks apart -- we rack up a lot of air miles -- but you have to be quite adaptable in this business whether you are in a relationship or not," the Vow actress says. "Trying to establish roots somewhere is a bit of a joke."
The Canadian actress was serious about favoring romance based on friendship. Her big tip for a successful relationship? "You need to trust each other and be able to talk to each other and be best friends."
