If you thought the story of 52-year-old country star Randy Travis' Feb. 5 arrest was amusing to begin with -- he was charged with public intoxication after being found drunk in his parked car in front of a Baptist church in Sanger, Texas -- just wait until you see the police video of his arrest. Watch it below!
The video shows police pulling up to a parked car in a church parking lot. The officers ask for Travis' name (they didn't seem to recognize him as the "Honk Tonk Moon" singer at first) and then ask for his ID, which Travis doesn't have. He explains that he had been in an argument with his fiance, but officers smell alcohol on Travis's breath and ask him if he'd been drinking.
"Yes sir, I have," responds Travis, "but I'm not driving, as you can see."
At this point, the officers ask Travis to exit his car and inform him he's being arrested for public intoxication. "Really? Are you kidding me?" is all Travis can say in response.
The video continues to show Travis being brought in to the police station. His concern seems to lie not in the fact he is being arrested but in regards to his car.
"Will anyone here drive me back to my vehicle?" he asks the policemen in the car. One responds, "Now, that I do not know."
Travis was released from the Sanger, Texas, prison only a few hours after his incarceration and charged with only a misdemeanor. The following day, he issued a statement taking responsibility for his actions.
"I apologize for what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl," he said in the statement. "I'm committed to being responsible and accountable, and apologize for my actions."
