If you're going to be arrested for driving while intoxicated, you might as well do it in the nude. Or at least that's the mentality Randy Travis seemed to have before he crashed his car at midnight last night in Texas.
Fortunately no other cars were involved in the accident, and Travis walked away with only minor cuts and bruises, TMZ reports. According to the Grayson County Sheriff's Office, police responded to a 911 call reporting that a man was lying in the road and had a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage" on his breath. They arrived on the scene and arrested Travis on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.
Instead of complying with the arrest, the 53-year-old country singer reportedly made matters even worse by threatening the officers. "While Travis was being transported, [he] made threats to shoot and kill the troopers working the case," says the sheriff's office in a statement. TMZ reports that his behavior earned him a "retaliation and obstruction" charge in addition to the DWI.
But that's not where the story ends. TMZ claims that cops arrived to find Travis completely naked during his late-night drive. "It's unclear why Travis was not wearing clothes," TMZ reports. (Though, there's no mention of his nudity in the sheriff's statement.)
Considering this is Travis' second alcohol-related arrest this year, maybe he shouldn't have been so rebellious to police officers. (He also refused to take a breathalyzer, so police were forced to administer a blood draw.) Back in February, Travis was arrested for public intoxication after he was found drinking wine straight from a bottle while sitting in his car in front of a Baptist church in the early morning. Check out the outrageous arrest video here.
Though reports said the binge drinking was a result of a fight with his girlfriend, Travis attributed it to "celebrating the Super Bowl."
"I'm committed to being responsible and accountable, and apologize for my actions," said the singer.
But apparently he failed to learn his lesson. The six-time Grammy winner is reportedly still in police custody.
