Raven-Symone is happy in her love life, and that's all she needs you to know about it! A recent National Enquirer story claimed that the former child star, now 26, has moved in with her reported girlfriend, America's Top Model Cycle 18 contestant AzMarie Livingston, 24.
"She's at a point now where she doesn't care what her family thinks, and she’s in love with AzMarie. She’s a lesbian and wants to live that way," said the tabloid's source, adding, "Raven has hidden being gay for a long time now."
But Raven says her love life has always been private, and she intends to keep it that way. On Friday, the actress, currently starring in Broadway's Sister Act, addressed the Enquirer story on Twitter.
"I'm living my PERSONAL life the way I'm happiest. I'm not one, in my 25 year career to disclose who I'm dating. and I shall not start now," Raven-Symone tweeted. "My sexual orientation is mine, and the person I'm datings to know. I'm not one for a public display of my life. However that is my right as a HUMAN BEing whether straight or gay. To tell or not to tell. As long as I'm not harming anyone."
"I am a light being made from love. And my career is the only thing I would like to put on display, not my personal life," she concluded. "Kisses!"
It's true that in 25 years of Raven's career, we've never heard her talk about her private life. (Granted, her career started at age 2, but we can think of plenty of other young stars whose love lives we know way too much about.) She did shoot down lesbian rumors in 2008, saying, "It's false that I'm dating a girl right now." (Though she didn't exactly say she was opposed to it). A year ago, the actress told Jet magazine that her perfect guy "would be a mannequin -- one that comes alive only when I need him to."
It would have been easy for Raven-Symone to issue an across-the-board denial of the National Enquirer story. It's not the most reputable paper, after all, though it occasionally hits a bullseye. What Raven did instead is much braver: she refused to confirm or deny the story, saying it doesn't matter whether she's dating a woman. Her Twitter statement makes the tabloid's headline -- "Raven-Symone Gay Shocker!" -- simply look ridiculous. Why would it be shocking if Raven-Symone were gay? She's not married, she's not a Tea Party member, and she's a grown woman. If she is dating AzMarie, there's only one thing to say, and that thing is: "What a beautiful couple!"
Raven-Symone's fans agree. Her tweets were met with an outpouring of support from her 350,000 Twitter followers, with comments like this one (which the actress retweeted): "I don't care whether you're gay, straight or even a polar bear, I f**king love you."
"Love the support, thanks y'all!!" she wrote in response. Keeping it real with the fans: that's so Raven.
