Michaele Salahi is best known for her unappreciated antics at the White House and on The Real Housewives of DC. But now the infamous star is revealing another side of herself, as she opens up about a health issue she's been battling for years.
In Cirque du Salahi, a new book about the reality star written by Diane Dimond, the 44-year-old reveals that she has multiple sclerosis. Salahi says she's dealt with the debilitating disorder for 17 years now.
So what made Salahi wait so long to tell the public about her long battle with the nervous system disorder? "No one wants to be seen as sickly," she tells People. "And I didn't want to be pitied."
The party crasher and her husband Tareq Salahi stopped by Fox & Friends on Wednesday morning to continue to talk about their book and Salahi's secret MS. "My own family, my cousins, a lot of the people dearest to me, my best friend just found out, so it's something that I kept personal," she says. "I think a lot of people do with chronic illnesses or any type of disease."
The Salahi's released a statement which read: "We want America to know that you can still have a full, exciting and productive life even if you or your loved one is battling a debilitating, chronic disease such as MS."
But through it all, Salahi somehow manages to stay positive. "The only way I can deal with it is to smile and act like I can get through it."
