Real Housewives of New Jersey star Melissa Gorga is taking on the heavy task of raising awareness about weight discrimination. The 36-year-old reality star is a tall, wealthy, beautiful woman who tips the scales at a svelte 115 pounds, but she recently donned a fat suit to transform her into a 400-pound morbidly obese woman for an Entertainment Tonight special report that will air Thursday.
ET has posted a preview video of the special, which they promise "the entire nation will be talking about." Watch it below!
"You will never look at overweight women the same way again," Gorga says in the video.
The transformation took five hours of makeup, one big fat suit and a hot-pink track suit to turn Gorga into a 400 pound obese woman. She took to the streets of New York City to see how people responded to a woman of her size. The report aims to open viewers' eyes to the way weight discrimination affects those of bigger size. But the video shows that Gorga felt the emotional effect of her transformation as well.
"I don't want to cry," she says in one scene. In another, she adds, "I don't even know who I'm looking at in the mirror." And in one scene where she's trying to tie her shoelaces, Gorga admits, "I'm literally out of breath right now."
Gorga has at least one supporter for her endeavor: fellow New Jersey resident and reality TV star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi. The Jersey Shore starlet tweeted a photo with Gorga Monday, saying, "Yo @joegorga I'm with ur sexy wife @melissagorga in a fat suit for Entertainment tonight!"
