The Real Ramona

The 'Real Housewife' reveals her beauty and style secrets

On the Bravo reality show, The Real Housewives of New York City, Ramona Singer has been called everything from oblivious to crazy. After having met her at Jill Zarin's book party and interviewing her, we now know that what we've seen on TV (at least when it comes to Ramona) is far from real.

The 53-year-old is radiant, down-to-earth and sweet. She's not the offbeat woman that TV editing can sometimes portray her to be. So what's spot-on about the mom and entrepreneur? She is, in fact, tiny, talkative and stylish. And beyond all of that, another thing we love about her is that she keeps it real.

Whether it's her opinion, business model or master plan to renew, she stays true to herself and her fans. She even created a jewelry line inspired by her own private collection. "I wanted to create [jewelry] for the everyday woman that's affordable with the same look as my deco estate jewelry," she explains. The Ramona Singer Jewelry collection at HSN features pieces that you can wear for the next 20 years -- they are timeless -- and pass them on to your daughters as Ramona plans to do hers.

What's your signature style?
I consider my signature style classy yet chic.

Where do you love to shop?
Bergdof Goodman. I love shopping on their designer floor when they have sales for 75 percent off of retail. Also, they have a vast selection on their contemporary floor and I can always find something fabulous to wear from there. For me this is a one-stop stop, from shoes to accessories etc.

Who are some of your favorite designers?
Rebecca Taylor -- her size 2 fits me like a glove as if it was custom made for me. Her dresses always have a professional look but with an edge. I also like Missoni and Dolce and Gabana.

You're going out for a night with the girls. What do you wear?
I have great legs, I feel they're one of my best assets so I always wear a skirt above the knee with high-heeled boots or heels, and a top that ends at the hip.

You look amazing for your age. How do you maintain your look?
Regular exercise is so important! I cannot begin to tell you... whether it's walking or taking the stairs if you miss the gym. Also, you are what you eat. I don't eat processed foods or white starch. I use olive oil at all times and no butter. I never eat anything fried or fast food.

What's a beauty secret you'd give to your your daughter, Avery (and us)?
I always wear sun block on my face (SPF 30 or more). Aveeno and Neutrogena have great affordable ones. Skin care is very important. I have been using my brand, Tru Renewal, for the past year-and-a-half and everyone sees the difference. Alex McCord (by her own admission) doesn't have great skin, and after using my product for four weeks everyone noticed the difference

What’s your favorite item that’s in your closet right now?
All my pieces are very special to me. Everything is timeless and chic whether I bought it yesterday or 10 years ago. But when it comes to accessories, I love my True Faith Diamonds by the Yard. I can throw them on with a pair of jeans or black tie. I use them as a layering piece with all my genuine gem stones.

Don't forget to tune in to watch Ramona, her renewal process and the other Real Housewives of New York City on Thursdays at 10/9c on Bravo.
