When Nicole Richie and Joel Madden tied the knot this past weekend in front of family and friends, there was one pretty noticeable face missing in the crowd. Richie's former BFF and Simple Life costar Paris Hilton was not in attendance at Saturday's nups. In fact, she wasn't even invited to the celebration.
"Nicole knew very well that having Paris involved would have inevitably turned a special night into being about their friendship," a source tells UsMagazine.com. "Nicole's life is completely different now."
The girls have always had a very tumultuous relationship. After being inseparable for years, they had a falling out but managed to bury the hatchet in 2006. In 2008, Hilton began seeing Madden's brother Benji, and the foursome spent plenty of nights double dating. But, when Hilton and Benji's relationship eventually fizzled out, the socialite and the mom of two stopped spending so much time together. Still, insiders say that Hilton "isn't dwelling on it too much."
"She and Nicole aren't close anymore, but there are no hard feelings there," the source said. "They just grew up and apart."
And while her old pal was taking the plunge into wedded bliss, Hilton didn't seem to be home crying in her stilettos. In fact, she was prepping for a trip with pal Jennifer Rovero.
"Good morning everyone! Off to Vegas for my BFF @CamRaFace's Birthday!" Hilton twittered Saturday morning. "Huge! Loves it!"
