The average age of menopause (which means you haven’t had a period for a full year) is 51 -- which is not so old these days. You could easily have many happy and healthy decades ahead of you. Some women do enter menopause as early as age 28. That’s called premature menopause, and the cause is often unknown, although sometimes there’s a genetic issue. Other women enter menopause early because of an illness or when their ovaries are removed in surgery.
