It's hard to imagine that Charlie Sheen could bring more irony to his FX show, Anger Management. But he just may do it!
O.J. Simpson -- inarguably the most iconic candidate for rage therapy -- has expressed interest in joining Sheen's show as a recurring character. That's once he gets out of jail, of course. "Simpson’s longtime promoter, Norman Pardo, recently pitched the idea to a senior production exec on the FX series and was met with a resounding thumbs-up," according to The New York Post.
Well of course he got a thumbs-up! Not content with merely being TMZ's favorite celebrity screw-up, Sheen is clearly out to become a one-man version of that sleazy tabloid. Just this year on Anger Management, he's dangled a Lindsay Lohan guest spot; a controversial firing (so long, Selma Blair!); and a producer lawsuit before the gossip-loving public like so many bon bons. (Next up: the paparazzi-plagued LeAnn Rimes just filmed a guest spot -- yep, as Charlie's love interest -- in skimpy lingerie.) How could Sheen say no to the greatest tabloid star of all time?
Like Lohan (who played herself as a tantrum-prone actress who gets arrested), Simpson would also play a thinly veiled version of himself. Pardo describes the character as "a famous con who’s pissed off about being unjustly incarcerated." Charlie will try to talk him down, naturally. (Perhaps he'll introduce him to some soothing goddesses?)
And it gets creepier. Those with long memories might recall that back in 2006, Denise Richards left Sheen in part because of what she called "an abnormal fascination with Nicole Simpson's death."
It begs a question: Does Sheen like to surround himself with notoriously nutty stars in order to make himself seem slightly less insane? If so, sorry Charlie. It ain't working.
