Red Flag: A Split on the Trunk or Where Branches are Attached

Trees with split trunks will probably collapse completely in a bad storm and should be removed. Vertical cracks caused by decay suggest the tree probably won’t survive the next storm. Horizontal cracks suggest that the tree is already failing and should also be removed.
