Reese Witherspoon’s Monique Lhuillier wedding gown probably isn’t even back from the dry cleaners and already there’s talk of a baby. It's been less than a month since the star wed agent Jim Toth at her ranch in Ojai, California and US Weekly now reports that she's getting ready to add to her brood – and wants to get pregnant this year.
If I'd had a baby during my first year of marriage, I'm not so sure my husband and I would still be together. We'd just bought a house and finances were equal parts tight and stressful. Just getting used to each other's habits was difficult – it took several years (yes, years) before I gave up trying to make him remember to close a freaking kitchen cabinet after he took something out of it. Looking back, I think: What if I'd had to take care of a newborn at the same time? I would have just cried. Nonstop.
Reese probably doesn’t have the same issues I had -- certainly not the financial ones. Here's a woman who has two older children from her previous marriage to Ryan Philippe and at least according to every paparazzi shot ever snapped, looks like she enjoys being a mom. Plus, she married a guy who, at 40, has never had children of his own, so there's that.
Then there’s the issue of age. At 35, she’s right at the age where pregnancy risk starts to increase. A healthy pregnancy in the first year of marriage might be less stressful than waiting a few years and dealing with the increased possibility of something going awry. Plus her kids will already be much older than any younger sib -- daughter Ava is 11 and son Deacon is 7. But you still have to wonder whether there might be some merit in enjoying each other as husband and wife -- and as a new family -- beforing shaking up the mix.
