"I'm no Kim Kardashian," admits Regis Philbin. But that won't keep him from following in her reality TV footsteps, if he so chooses!
During an interview with USA Today, the 80-year-old co-host of ABC's Live With Regis and Kelly revealed some of his tentative plans after he leaves the show on Nov. 18, after 28 seasons. "There are several things that interest me," he said. "You know these reality shows? I would love to do a real reality show where Regis goes out…I did a little pilot for somebody last week in L.A."
Cameras trailing Regis as he goes out and about? That premise does sound rather Kardashian-like. The TV vet (jokingly?) says he wants to call it, This Week With Regis! Episodes would feature excursions like a trip to the eye doctor, and an appearance on The Late Late Show With Craig Ferguson.
It sounds like his options to stay on camera would be reality TV or nothing -- Regis did admit to USA Today that he was offered a sitcom upon announcing his retirement, but he isn't interested. "It's so time consuming," he said. "I'd like to take some time off."
This week, his current show kicked off the "Regis Farewell Celebration Season," which means lots of celebrity remembrances, fan tributes and highlight clips from Philbin's long run on Live with Regis and Kelly, culminating on his last day on the air. "(Nov. 18) is going to be a tough day. No doubt about it. When the finality hits you, it's over. It's not going to be nice for me," he said. "But then before you know it, it'll be This Week With Regis!" he cracks. And off to the eye doctor we'll all go.
