Relaxation and birth visualization techniques

 

So that with your next breath, come to a place on the back of your neck. Just beginning to travel down your spine, letting your breath massage the inside of your backbone as you travel from the first vertebrae, slipping and sliding smoothly down to the second, the third...all the way down to the middle of your back. Sinking slower and deeper down through your lower back, all the way down through your tailbone. You might even remember a time when you slid down a slide. The very first time, or the second time in your life...climbing up the ladder, step by step to the very top. Perhaps there was someone there to help you, _______, so that you were not afraid. And you were clinging very tightly to the slide, but with encouragement you let go.... and right down the slide you came, so smooth and so fast...And it was so much fun, that you went around again, learning how to let go at the top...all the way down to the bottom. It was so much fun!

To personalize: Create your own suggestion for clearing past difficulty in childbirth or difficulty with your own birth. Make a version of the slide metaphor that fits your circumstances and creates a positive possibility for your coming delivery. For example, if you had a difficult first birth, see the first journey down the slide as difficult, but create a smoother glideway the second time down. Refer to your birth inventory for suggestions about your own birth or previous childbirth that can be worked through in the slide metaphor. Your inner mind will respond to the message you give, helping relax you during labor.
