This winter, Beyonce won't just be celebrating her daughter Blue Ivy's first birthday -- she'll reportedly be taking center stage at the biggest show of the year! First reported by The Associated Press, the "Love on Top" singer has booked the Super Bowl halftime show on Feb. 3, 2013, at New Orleans' Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
The Grammy-winning bombshell confirmed the news this afternoon when she posted a photo of herself on her official website (pictured above) with the date of the Super Bowl written in eye black, as seen on football players. The only information she provided her fans? A message that says: "Countdown to Touchdown."
Beyonce has made very few concert appearances since Blue was born in January, so a nationally televised show is a reason for fans to get excited. Another reason: the potential for some amazing guest appearances! Beyonce's hubby Jay-Z seems like he'd be a shoe-in (perhaps to reprise the couple's 2003 mega-hit "Crazy in Love"?). But already, there's buzz that Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams may stop by for that long-rumored Destiny's Child reunion. The timing would make sense: the group is about to release a Greatest Hits album, Playlist, to coincide with the 15th anniversary of their first Number 1 song, "No, No, No Part 2."
It was this time last year that the news leaked of Madonna's Super Bowl booking. During her performance -- which garnered mixed reviews from iVillage commenters -- the Material Girl busted out a mix of new songs and classic hits, supported by guest performers Nicki Minaj, M.I.A., LMFAO and Cee Lo Green. According to the AP, the halftime show was seen by 114 million people -- 3 million more than watched the game itself! (Guess music really does make the people come together.)
We're thinking Beyonce can rock the stage even harder than Madonna -- and we can't wait to grab some buffalo wings and watch.
