A Balancing Act

Any woman with kids knows that being a mom is a full-time job. But that's not the only job many women have. Today, nearly three-quarters of moms are juggling jobs and families. We reached out to more than two-dozen moms with successful careers -- from authors to athletes to top-ranking executives -- and asked them to share personal stories of going back to work after having a baby. Here's what we heard:

Giuliana Rancic
"I would be at work and be thinking about the baby all day and calling and ask how the baby was doing. Or I would go online and then look at a new onesie or see what the best stroller was. But I was spending a lot of time at work thinking about the baby and shopping for the baby. Then I would get home and I would be playing with the baby and then, the next thing you know, I'd be checking my emails because I neglected things at work. And then I wasn't having quality time with the baby. The result: I was only giving work 50 percent and the baby 50 percent. And I realized the secret -- at least for me -- is when I'm at work, I work. That's it. No more surfing on the web doing baby stuff. Just strictly doing work and I tell Bill or my mom, whoever's home with the baby, only call if you need me. Or if something is going on. And that's it. I focus 100 percent at work. And when I get home, the phone goes away and that's it. I focus 100 percent on baby time. I found that it really helps balance things more."
