Ricky Martin finally came out to the world as a "fortunate homosexual man," but was it all at his boyfriend's request? The Miami Herald is reporting that Martin's Puerto Rican partner "was tired of living in hiding and threatened to expose his sexuality," and may be the reason behind Martin's announcement.
Martin, 38, father to 19-month-old twin boys Matteo and Valentino, stated Monday via his website RickyMartinMusic.com, "I am very blessed to be who I am."
The singer, who made no mention of a boyfirend, credits his children for inspiring him to come out: "To keep living as I did up until today would be to indirectly diminish the glow that my kids were born with."
Martin seems happy in the aftermath of his announcement and twittered yesterday, "Whats going on gang? I'm doing great! Stronger than ever! I'm here relaxing @ home enjoying ur messages! I feel the love! Thanx for all! peace." And the singer got an outpouring of support from fans and fellow celebs, including Jenna Dewan (Step Up) who posted on Twitter, "Yea for @ricky_martin to speak his truth. I think it is very beautiful and inspiring to a lot of people."
GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) president Jarrett Barrios said in a statement that Martin's decision to open up about his sexuality could "lead to greater acceptance for countless gay people."
