Say you're Ricky Martin, and you're contemplating a return to TV. Sure, your last real acting gig, on General Hospital in the mid-nineties, was nice. But you're prime-time ready now! Which show to guest star on? No, Martin didn't opt for a spot on Law & Order SVU -- the sexy Latin singer is up for a spot on Fox's Glee!
Natch, Martin is in talks to play a Spanish teacher on that gloriously musical, liberal-minded, slightly cornball celebration of livin' la vida high school early next year. And in case there was any doubt in your mind, a Glee insider told TV Line that he's "the hottest Spanish teacher ever in the history of Ohio."
So what happened to the pronouncement that Glee would be guest-star free this season? Back in June, exec producer Ryan Murphy told TV Line that in season 3, they were "not going to have any guest stars" except for one musical tribute episode. "It’s (an episode) I’ve been working on for two years -- it took forever to clear -- with a really big artist."
Could Martin, 39, be that really big artist? Probably not, because the source also said that Martin would have two big musical numbers in the episode -- a true tribute episode would feature more than that. More likely, Murphy realized he could get Martin, and despite his earlier declarations about no more guest stars, he simply couldn't turn the Puerto Rican mega-star down.
Martin is coming off of a concert tour, and in February he'll head into rehearsals for his role of Che Guevara in Broadway's Evita. So why not stop by the Glee set and shake his bon bon a little in the meantime?
The episode is scheduled to air in January. Luckily, Glee fans won't have to wait that long for the return of Chord Overstreet. His character, the trouty-mouthed Sam Evans, will return to McKinley High on December 6th when Finn (Corey Monteith) and Rachel (Lea Michele) ask him to help them win sectionals. How did Overstreet's return to the series go? "My body was not used to the dancing," he told TV Guide. "The first day back in the dance studio, we had three songs to do for Sectionals, and the next day my hamstrings couldn't move. And I had to go right back to dancing again."
Ricky Martin, you may want to take note!
