It's finally here! After a big build-up, Rihanna has debuted the music video for her new single, "Diamonds."
The video comes courtesy of MTV, and it's a stunning piece of cinematography -- even if it doesn't necessarily make that much sense. Rihanna opened up to MTV about her inspiration for the video, saying she focused more in relating emotions than telling a single storyline.
"With every song it's a different story, so the visuals are very specific to that story and that world. With 'Diamonds,' it was just a series of vignettes that we put together to help get the emotion across throughout the song 'cause the song changes and it builds, and there's no real way that you could do that," she tells the site. "You just want people to feel that and I wanted little cutaways of interactions that would give you the right emotion."
The video includes shots of Rihanna running away from a car, floating in black waters, singing to wild horses and sitting in a room where objects are floating around backwards. It was directed by Anthony Mandler, who also has worked with RiRi in the videos for "Disturbia," "Only Girl (In the World)," "Hate That I Love You" and more.
"Diamonds" is the first single off her new album Unapologetic. The record is due out Nov. 19, and includes collaborations with Eminem, Future, Mikky Ekko, David Guetta and, controversially, Chris Brown.
