Unfriendly Skies? Rihanna's 777 Tour Jet Turns Chaotic

From tales of food deprivation to footage of an Australian streaker, the stories continue to leak from Rih-Rih's "scary plane prison" as journos document the mayhem

When Rihanna invited 200 journalists to join her on a week-long international tour -- on a Boeing jet, no less! -- those guests were looking forward to living large with one of the world's biggest stars. Six days later, that tour has descended into mayhem, with journalists deprived of food, sleep and internet access -- while Rihanna herself is nowhere to be seen. And wait until you see the video footage!

The chaos came to a head around the fourth day of Rihanna's 7 day, 7 country 777 Tour. That's when the press corp "revolted," as captured in the video below by Fuse TV. In an attempt to get Rihanna to show her face, journalists began chanting "Just one quote!" and "I need a headline!" One Australian reporter streaked naked through the plane. Though the singer never emerged, a Def Jam publicist eventually got everyone to settle down, promising, "Someday, before we die, I'll tell you my version of the story." (We hope that day comes soon.)

So what, exactly, got the press so worked up? Basically, they've been rendered unable to do their jobs, because Rihanna has been a no-show since Day 1 of the tour (despite traveling on the same giant plane). The pop star's guests have only seen her during concerts, for which she has been perpetually late, which is throwing off everybody's schedule, leaving them trapped on the tarmac for hours at a time. And then there are the more basic problems, like eating and sleeping. As a writer from Popdust put it: "Picture the last time you were delayed at an airport for several hours. Now picture that happening several times in one day, with no ability to make calls, text, or use the internet. Sometimes you aren’t sure of the next time you’ll be able to use a bathroom, get water, or eat. Now picture that happening for five days in a row, all while you’re supposed to be doing your job remotely. Now picture that, with a steady soundtrack of European house music."

It's unclear whether Rihanna is aware of what's going on, though the story is rapidly making its way around the internet. One of the journalists has started a Twitter account, @rihannaplane, to collect all the updates from the Boeing. Meanwhile, the story is unfolding in blog-post form at MTV Style, Rolling Stone, The Huffington Post, Spin, and other music news outlets that unwittingly sent journalists onto what Popdust calls a "scary plane prison."

The tour is touching down on Tuesday, so Rih-Rih has one more day to make things good with her press corps. (A few good quotes and all will be forgiven!) On the plus side, the journalists have made a very entertaining story out of their ordeal -- and they'll each have a pair of Rihanna socks to remember it by.
