It turns out the wedding scene in Breaking Dawn was a lot more realistic than it initially appeared to be. During a recent press conference in Sweden to promote the movie, leading man Robert Pattinson admitted that he and real-life girlfriend Kristen Stewart are now technically married!
While filming the scene where lovebirds Bella and Edward finally tie the knot, an actual priest was called in to perform the ceremony. And, in order to make the moment seem true-to-life, the priest had Pattinson, 25, and Stewart, 21, recite all the words they would in an actual marriage ceremony. Of course, most weddings don't involve multiple takes, a director calling the shots and a bunch of vampires in attendance -- but those are just minor details.
"The wedding scene's funny because we used a real priest. So technically we are already married because he did all the things you would do in a normal ceremony," Pattinson joked, according to Us Weekly.
Since Pattinson and Stewart never made things official with a marriage certificate, however, they aren't truly wed in the eyes of the state. But, hey, fans can dream. And they can also look forward to the steamy sex scenes -- which Stewart says initially earned Breaking Dawn an R rating -- they'll get to see when Part 1 hits theaters Nov. 18.
During the press conference, Pattinson called the love scenes "very charged" but also "very tender and sentimental," adding that the hard part was making sure the scene came out the right way since it wasn't something that was technically in the book.
"The sex scenes were difficult," he said. "The set was crazy, and you have about 20 people in the room and someone saying things like: 'No, Bella would not have made that noise. Can we do it again?'"
Pattinson added that he personally isn't able to relate to the "fear of sex and sexuality" that is present in the Twilight books and movies.
"It's funny that all three movies portray sex as something scary and then, when they have sex in the fourth movie, they have a child with really rather devastating consequences," he said. "I'm not sure what they are trying to say... never have sex with anyone ever?"
