If you want to get on the wrong side of Robert Pattinson just call him R-Pattz and see how he responds.
The Twilight star, who's currently promoting his new period drama Bel Ami and the upcoming adaptation Cosmopolis, admitted to the UK's Guardian what he really thinks of the moniker regularly ascribed to him.
"When I got this part, every single article that came out was, 'R-Pattz' struggle for credibility!; I don't understand who invented that thing, 'R-Pattz,'" Pattinson, 26, shared. "I want to strangle them."
Pattinson also confessed that he's often taken for an "idiot" because of his starring role in the teen-targeted Twilight franchise.
"It is surprising the amount of people who think I'm going to be really dumb," he said. "I think they think anyone who has done teen movies is just an idiot. I don't know, maybe I am. Some of the best actors, if you talk to them, they're not the smartest people in the world."
After insulting the intelligence of the "some of the best actors" in the world, the actor expressed his disdain for Hollywood's tendency to focus on big-budget films instead of smaller, smarter movies like Cosmopolis, which just as the Don Delillo novel on which it's based, takes place mostly in a car and features a lot of monologues and discussions of economics.
"There is some weird thing that's happened where the only thing that can be shown is a superhero movie that has cost $250 [million] to make. It's the most ridiculous thing ever," he said.
Of course, Pattinson realizes that it's because of his position as a teen heartthrob that he's been able to snag roles without auditioning -- and now that he has Cronenberg's risk-taking role under his belt, he feels more confident than ever.
"Since Twilight, I've done two. One of them was for a job I'm doing now and it was really hard. Two really, really long auditions that everybody was going up for," he admitted. "I was so happy afterwards when I got it. And it was purely because of Cosmopolis that I was thinking, 'You can go and do this as an actor, rather than just as the guy from Twilight, because you've got some foreign value now.'"
