There was a time, probably around the same time Rock of Ages is set, when almost every woman in America would have glady thrown themselves at Tom Cruise. And that's exactly what happens in the recently-released Rock of Ages trailer. Watch it below!
In this adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, Cruise plays rock legend Stacee Jaxx, a role that affords the 49-year-old actor the opportunity to unleash his inner hair-band rocker by belting out Styx's "Renegade," Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive" and a duet of Foreigner's "I Want To Know What Love Is."
And while the photo of Cruise as Jaxx released over the summer gives us as good a look at him performing as the trailer does, the video clip does offer a glimpse of Cruise's tongue-in-cheek approach to his onscreen sex appeal.
"I think we're going to see him every drop the rock 'n' roll god! I'm very excited," director Adam Shankman told Access Hollywood of Cruise's performance. "He's so committed to doing it. He's pouring himself in this part in a way I've never had an actor do... it's pretty intense."
While the trailer lays on the cheese pretty thick, that's kind of what one would expect from a movie based on a Broadway musical filled with '80s hair-metal classics. And it certainly works, thanks in no small part to the cast: Alec Baldwin as a wisecracking, hilarious-wig-wearing club owner; Russell Brand doing his usual comedic schtick; Footloose star Julianne Hough as a small-town girl trying to be a star; 90210 actor Diego Boneta as the main character, busboy and aspring rocker Drew Bowley; and Catherine Zeta-Jones as pious Patrice, who decries Jaxx because he "spews sex." It is set to hit theaters June 1.
