ABBA, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and KISS highlight the 12 nominees up for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.
The 25th annual induction ceremony is on March 15, 2010 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.
Also nominated are The Stooges, Darlene Love, Donna Summer, Genesis, Jimmy Cliff, Laura Nyro, LL Cool J, The Chantels and The Hollies.
Of the 12 nominees, five will be announced as inductees in December. To be eligible, the artist had to release their first album or single at least 25 years prior -- in this case, no later than 1984.
Any music fan would have to consider KISS, ABBA and the Red Hot Chili Peppers as lock for three of the five spots. The last two spots are up for grabs.
You could make a great case for rapper LL Cool J, the self-proclaimed "Greatest of All Time" (G.O.A.T.), who recently traded in his microphone for an acting gig on NCIS: Los Angeles.
Donna Summer was the "Queen of Disco" in the 1970’s and was the first artist to have three consecutive double albums on top of the Billboard charts.
English band Genesis produced two great rock singers in Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins.
And The Chantels are arguably the most underrated female R&B group of all time. The 1950s girl group opened the doors for The Supremes, The Shirelles and others in the Motown era.
