Roll out the red carpet

For many people, the Oscars wouldn’t be complete without the full-blown red carpet coverage. And you certainly don’t want an incomplete party, so why not do your own? Put an actual red carpet down outside your front door and take photos (heavy on the flashbulbs) of people as they arrive. Award-worthy dress optional (but always fun).

“If you have teenage kids, you can get a volunteer to quiz guests about what they’re wearing when they arrive on the red carpet,” Huber suggests. “It can be very funny.” Later, you can recruit the kids to help you print out photos. Put the red-carpet “paparazzi” shots into inexpensive frames with film clapboard designs on them — an excellent souvenir for guests to take home at the end of the soiree.
