Why hasn't Will Ferrell been making the press rounds to promote Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues? Who knows? That guy is so lazy.
Luckily, the character he plays in the film, Ron Burgundy, has picked up the slack. He's been busy making wry observations on Twitter and released scores of YouTube videos, opining on everything from the Australian elections to his thoughts on Halloween. He's managed to convince Ben & Jerry to name an ice cream flavor after him, while simultaneously promoting his autobiography, Let Me Off at the Top!: My Classy Life and Other Musings (which has been excerpted in The New Yorker).
And this weekend marked the latest in a string of televised publicity stunts he's executed in the run-up to the movie's Dec. 18 premiere. Burgundy, who's the most prominent member of San Diego's local Channel 4 news team, co-anchored the Saturday night newscast for the CBS affiliate in… Bismarck, N.D. And he brought his trademark witty banter with him. "Amber, you look lovely tonight," he told weekend anchor Amber Schatz. "Are you married?" She isn't.
"Well, I am," he replied, "so don't get any ideas." Watch here:
Mmmhmm. "I can't wait to do it for real," he added at the end of the broadcast, which included lots of throat clearing and dead air (you can watch the full 30 minutes here). "That was a good warm-up." According to ABC News, Burgundy was supposed to end with a local twist on his signature catchphrase: "Stay classy, Bismarck." Instead, he missed his cue. "What?" he asked. "Oh, am I supposed to read that?"
Burgundy has also made a few recent trips to visit his old friend Conan O'Brien. Though O'Brien isn't as dear to him as the crack-smoking mayor of Toronto, Rob Ford: "He's controversial cause he's so damn honest," Burgundy explained. "He's the best." Watch below.
In a series of commercials for the Dodge Durango -- yes, he's a truck spokesperson, too -- Burgundy has pointed out features like the glove box, which "goes on for inches," and the rear seats that fold down perfectly flat. "And you know what that's for." Watch here:
Care to see the trailer for Achorman 2? Sure, as long as you promise to stay classy...
