Rosie Perez Riffs on Romney Latino Gaffe in Pro-Obama Vid

The star takes on Mitt Romney's recorded remark that being Latino would give him an advantage in the election

The now infamous recording of Mitt Romney’s “47 percent” remark also includes a variety of other misguided gems -- and Rosie Perez wants you to know about one of them.

In a new viral video starring Perez and created by the same folks behind Samuel L. Jackson’s recent vid, Perez riffs off Romney’s half-joking comment that it would be “helpful to be Latino” if he wants to win the presidential election next month.

“Actually, Mitt, that is so true!” a laughing Perez says following the clip of Romney’s remark. “All you have to do is look at the statistics and Mitt’s point becomes crystal clear. Hispanics represent 17 percent of the population and account for less than two percent of all elected and appointed officials. The advantage is obvious.”

Furthering her point that minority groups are still marginalized in this country rather than given unfair advantage, she continues, “Oh my goodness, what if you were just a little bit gay, Mitt? Think of all the advantages that would provide... No! Wait for it: What if you had a vagina? If you were a gay Latina, this election would be in the bag for you.”

Instead, she says sarcastically, Mitt was cursed with the “hard-knock life” of growing up as the son of a wealthy governor and auto exec, whose father paid his way through private schools and bought his first house.

Playing up her trademark cutesy look and demeanor, Perez effectively points out just how out of the bounds of reality Romney’s remarks were. Taking a turn for the serious, she closes with, “The truth is, the reason why Latinos aren’t voting for you is because your policies suck. Being Latino wouldn’t win you the election, but saying jokingly that you wish you were might actually lose it for you.”
