Looks like things haven't been so easy for Russell Brand in the Big Easy! Just days after the New Orleans police department issued a warrant for the 36-year-old comedian's arrest, he was taken into police custody last night -- it's unsure if he turned himself in or not -- and was released shortly after posting his $5,000 bail.
The arrest comes after the former Mr. Katy Perry allegedly grabbed the phone of a photographer who was snapping pictures and him and hurled it through a law office window. Though Brand promised to pay for the damages caused to the law firm, it was the paparazzo who filed a claim against the funnyman.
As of Thursday evening, Brand was being charged with two misdemeanor counts of simple criminal damage to property value, according to TMZ. The two were valued at $700, which Brand paid and then went on his merry way.
Brand is down in New Orleans filming Diablo Cody's new film, and we're guessing he will do his best to avoid any future run-ins with the law. Good for him, though, for not trying to evade the mess he got himself into.
Earlier this week, Brand gave a different explanation for the phone mishap via his Twitter account.
"Since Steve Jobs died I cannot bear to see anyone use an iphone irreverently," he tweeted. "What I did was a tribute to his memory."
We're sure Jobs would be pleased by this loving homage.
