Comparing Perry and himself to a "tennis professional [who got] married to a crystal meth addict," Brand, 37, admitted that his divorce from Perry, 27, resulted from something plain and simple: "incompatibility."
"Sometimes it goes well, sometimes it don't," Brand told Liz Hayes, a correspondent on Australia's 60 Minutes. "But if you sort of sense there's an incompatibility, then in any relationship, regardless of the status of the individual, it kind of is best to go separate ways."
Coming off his December 2011 separation from Perry, the provocative English comic apparently felt his 14-month marriage equipped him with the wisdom to dispense marital advice.
"I think if you're someone who's really into mountain biking, it would be good to go out with someone else who's into mountain biking, and if you're really into Eastern mysticism, go out with someone else who into Eastern mysticism," he said. "I think if you’re a devoted tennis professional and you get married to a crystal meth addict, you might have trouble."
It's not the first time Brand has discussed his marriage's demise, even in vague terms. In July, Brand told Howard Stern that their marriage had run its course.
"This isn't really working out, it's a difficult situation ... I was really, really in love with her, but it was difficult to see each other ... We were together when it was right to be together, and when it wasn't we worked it out ... It was a lovely relationship ... it mostly didn't work for practical reasons."
