Russell Brand didn't file for divorce from wife of 14 months Katy Perry until Dec. 30, but he removed his wedding ring -- for the camera, no less! -- in early November.
In a video made to promote Brand's November college comedy tour, the 36-year-old comedian-actor -- who claims to have little knowledge of American university life -- takes off his wedding band after jokingly telling the camera, "I'm going to learn about sororities."
"I'm going to place this somewhere very, very safe for the next week," he adds slyly, implying that he may get into some shenanigans with those aforementioned sorority girls. Of course, it's hard to view Brand's video as a warning sign that his relationship was on the rocks -- he is a comedian, after all, and he doesn't mention his marriage at all in the clip. But, thanks to the power of hindsight, it does seem a bit foreboding now. Watch the video below!
And a supportive tweet from Perry suggests that all was still well on the homefront at that juncture. "My fowl mouthed Hubby @rustyrockets is playing a few mid-west/east-coast shows starting tonight onwards! SUPPORT!" she wrote.
Perry, 27, has also been vocal on Twitter since the couple's split was announced Dec. 30.
"I am so grateful for all the love and support I've had from people around the world. You guys have made my heart happy again," she said.
That said, she's not a fan of all the rumors, heresay and speculation surrounding the couple's split. "Concerning the gossip, I want to be clear that NO ONE speaks for me," she later tweeted. "Not a blog, magazine, 'close sources' or my family."
The comedian and pop star tied the knot in October 2010 in India. Following the divorce filing, AP wires reported Brand as saying. "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."
