Ryan Phillippe is done with being the bad guy. In an interview with Howard Stern, the actor says he's so over being Hollywood's bad boy, and having to deal with negative press over his breakups with ex-wife Reese Witherspoon and, more recently, actress Abbie Cornish.

"I've been dumped on in the press for relationship stuff since Reese and I divorced," Phillippe said. "I'm tired of getting s**t on. I don't feel like I deserve it. Things happen! How many people have you broken up with over your life?"

The actor says that he and Witherspoon are actually "great friends and great co-parents" of their children, Ava, 10, and Deacon, 6.

In fact, after Phillippe split with Cornish in February and Witherspoon split with Jake Gyllenhaal in December, they both reached out to each other.

"After I had my breakup, she called, and after she did, I called," the actor said.

As for his ex's new relationship with agent Jim Toth, all Phillippe is in total support. "I trust her to make the right decisions around our children," he said simply. "I hope she feels the same way."

His split with Cornish doesn't seem to be quite as amicable, as Phillippe admits he was caught off guard when the actress publicly announced their breakup through her rep.

"I have a new rule: not to date anyone who has a publicist," the actor told Stern.

The actor explained that he and Cornish had privately ended their four-year romance face to face -- but he was not prepared for her to make a public statement claiming that she had dumped him.

"Who announces a breakup?" he exclaimed. "I don't understand that! There's no need for that."
