Get the babyproofing basics

Plastic Spoons and Other Utensils
Never feed your baby with a plastic spoon or other plastic utensil because it can break in your baby's mouth and lead to injury or choking. Always use a safe spoon made with baby-friendly material that she can't bite through. Be particularly careful at birthday parties, where plastic spoons are invariably used and can often break off in a piece of cake.
Helpful Hint: Carry a baby-friendly spoon in your diaper bag rather than assume there will be something acceptable at a party or a restaurant. Most places you visit won't have a spoon baby can easily manage, and it certainly won't be safe.
